1500 children have been treated since 2012

Somalia squareIn 2012, Every Child Fed and Project Peanut Butter (PPB) delivered critical food aid to starving children in Somalia. In total, 800 cartons of RUTF were delivered to the Dr. Hawa Abdi Foundation (DHAF) outside the Somali capital of Mogadishu. One thousand severely malnourished children received treatment from this one shipment.

In 2013, ECF went one step further and collaborated with PPB and DHAF to establish a small-scale production facility capable of treating 2500 children each year. Doctors Without Borders had been forced to pull out of Somalia due to political turmoil, leaving a huge gap in the care of starving children. This made locally sourced food aid more critical than ever. ECF made it possible for the necessary equipment and staff training to be provided to enable DHAF to locally produce and distribute the much-needed RUTF. As a result of having their own local production of RUTF, DHAF staff no longer have to worry about turning away dying children due to lack of supplies.
