Oats in Action

In our last blog post, we shared how the small change of using oats in place of vegetable oil in the Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) recipe can make a big difference in treating malnutrition. We also shared that in order to implement these findings we had to get 75,000 lbs of oat powder from General Mills to Sierra Leone to serve 10,500 severely malnourished children. And that’s where you came in!

With your help, we were able to ship all the oats to the factory in Sierra Leone! 

We are ecstatic to report the oats have successfully reached the factory in Sierra Leone and are being incorporated into the RUTF recipe. This new RUTF formula is now being distributed through community-based clinics, supporting mothers to treat their malnourished children at the home. That means children have an increased chance to live and thrive right now because of one tiny change you helped bring into reality.

As we celebrate 10 years of saving children’s lives, we are grateful for all our partners who work with us to grow and improve the ways we serve.
