What Does a Severely Malnourished Brain Look Like?
We usually focus on the outwardly visible signs of severe malnutrition and how effective RUTF is at bringing lifeless children back to a state of health. This amazing graphic shows what happens in two different parts of the brain of a severely malnourished 10-month-old baby.*
The top images, a and b, show how the brain of the severely malnourished child has shrunk because the neurons did not receive the required nutrients to survive. The bottom images show the damage has actually been reversed within 90 days of proper treatment.
