2024 Maternal Mental Health Update

In June of 2022 we partnered with Project Peanut Butter and the Sierra Leone Mental Health Coalition to develop a novel Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) program using culturally relevant picture-based resources appropriate for women with limited or no reading skills. (The illiteracy rate of women in Sierra Leone is 59%). We served over 400 women in the pilot program, resulting in very positive testimonials.

Based on this initial success, in November of 2023 we supported Project Peanut Butter to launch a rigorous randomized research study to assess the efficacy of the therapy program.

As of October 2024, over 1,000 women have been screened in six communities. 143 women have been enrolled in the therapy program and 123 have already successfully graduated. With the results of the study, we will continue to improve the program and the outcomes for mothers and children.

Will you help us continue the Maternal Mental Health program through 2025?
