Expanding the Maternal Mental Health Program

Based on the success we’re seeing in Pujehun, we’re expanding the Maternal Mental Health program to serve more mothers and children in Sierra Leone.

With your help, in 2022 we launched a first of its kind maternal mental health program in the Pujehun district in Sierra Leone. Based on the positive results of this pilot, we are expanding the program to the neighboring district of Bo. (Check out previous blogs to read more about the pilot in Pujehun)

Similar to Pujehun, there is already a network of community clinics in place in Bo where severely malnourished children are receiving the RUTF treatment to survive. We will work in the same communities to provide the maternal mental health support needed to also prevent severe acute malnutrition in addition to treating it.

The cost to expand to Bo will include:

  • Hiring and training 6 new counselors

  • Transportation for the counselors to the communities

  • Counseling materials and supplies

We are committed to supporting women and their families to thrive.
